Philosophy
Total Basketball believes that at the youth level long-term development is more important than short-term wins and losses. We subscribe to the European soccer model of youth sports development that emphasizes skill mastery, small-sided games, and decision-making over full-court games, travel tournaments, and wins and losses. (In fact, our name is an homage to “Total Football,” the revolutionizing Dutch soccer style that prioritized imaginative, position-less players and skill over physicality.
Total Basketball is influenced by the philosophies of UCLA Coach John Wooden and UNC Coach Dean Smith. We believe that basketball is a team game where organization and cooperation are balanced with individual imagination and improvisation.
